busy times

I have been so blessed with so many opportunities to see and participate in so many activities and work with so many people. The first week of April was one of my busiest. I was invited to attend an event at the children's hospital in Washington, DC for the clothesline project in honor of April being Child abuse awareness month. April 5th was the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther Kings birthday. I was able to attend two different events that day for the later I was a featured performer for both events. It was such an honor to be invited to lend my voice for such a wonderful event.

exciting times

This is such an amazing time in my life. I have had the opportunity to attend not one but two sendoffs for two fabulous women. Shayna Rudd, (posted picture from Miss District of Columbia MAO sendoff) and Chelsey Rodgers who leaves tomorrow morning for Las Vegas where she will get ready to take away the title of Miss USA. I received an email from Shannon Schambeau where she described being in a pageant system as having the opportunity to be a member of a special sorority. Once you are in it, win or lose you share a special experience with women all over the country and the world. Women who are all taking a pro-active stance to become leaders in their communities. I do credit the MAO (Miss America Organization) with giving me my start on this level of competition. They really do care about helping young women be the best people they can be. I have received continued support from them though I hold a title from a different circuit as Miss Black District of Columbia USA 2008. I have now joined a new family in the Miss Black USA organization and am looking to going full speed with preparing for my own national competition. For those interested you can go to www.missblackusa.org if you want to attend the pageant, or know of any young women who may be interested in being a part of the experience.
